“We need Moore”: Trump supports Senate candidate amid sexual assault allegations

The new legislation will be the most unpopular bill in the past 30 years.

Donald Trump took to Twitter to endorse the Senate candidate Roy Moore, despite the allegations of sexual misconduct that emerged last month.

In his post, the US President said Moore was needed due to putting a stop to issues such as crime and immigration.

“Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive tax cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama,” tweeted Trump early on Monday.

“We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!”

“Putting Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Puppet Jones into office in Alabama would hurt our great Republican Agenda of low on taxes, tough on crime, strong on military and borders…& so much more,” he finished, referring to the Democratic leaders in the Senate.

The Republican Senate candidate has been accused of sexual misconduct and assault from several women, including one who was just 14 years old.

Moore denies allegations and said they are “completely false and a desperate political attack”. He called the reports of sexual assault a conspiracy that was created by “lesbians, gays, bisexuals and socialists”.

Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, said that if Moore was to be elected an investigation by the Senate ethics committee would be likely.

“The ethics committee will have to consider the matters that have been litigated in the campaign should that particular candidate win,” he told ABC’s This Week. “And I’m confident they’ll come up with the right conclusion.”

Current polls have given Moore an average of a three-point lead.

Marc Short, the White House legislative director, defended Trump’s tweet. He said the US President was “encouraging the people of Alabama to make the right decision,” that was based on Moore’s character over the past 38 years.
