Apple launches the new iPad and red iPhone 7

Today was a big day for Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) who released the new iPad, a new iPhone colour for the 7 and 7 Plus and the new video app, Clips.

The new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will come in a red colour which will be available on March 24 and start at £699. The new colour has been introduced as part of Apple’s Product Red campaign, where a new range of red devices means Apple will make a contribution from every purchase to the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS programmes.

The tech giant also introduced a new app called Clips where users will be able to create videos and share them with friends on iOS devices. The new app, on top of the extra iMessage features released in 2016 pushes Apple closer to competing with the features in apps such as Snap Inc (NYSE:SNAP).

Clips will let users add speech bubbles and captions to videos and share them on different social networking platforms such as Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) or Instagram.

For the new iPad, the new model will start at 32 GB of storage and will replace the iPad Air 2. It will be less expensive than the smaller iPad Mini 4, which starts at $399 for a 128 GB model.

Most features in the iPad are the same as seen on previous models. The new iPad has the same camera specs, same screen specs and battery life.

On top of the new products, Apple has also announced new case colours for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It has also added new watch bands for spring, in a variety of new colours.

Whilst there is nothing too groundbreaking about this recent line of new products, the iPhone 8 is rumoured to be very different from anything we’ve seen before.

The iPhone 8 is expected to have an edge-to-edge display, wireless charging and no home button. Apple is said to be designing three versions of the new model, with a third model featuring an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen rather than the normal LCD.
