London appears to be holding onto its status as a leading tech hub, despite fears over the impact of Brexit.

London’s tech industry still has more tech developers than any other city outside the US, according to the latest data from Stack Overflow, with the rate on growth on a par with Tokyo, Moscow and Singapore.

The number of workers in the tech industry rose by 11 per cent year-on-year in the 12 months to June, with 418,000 developers working in London. These figures comes despite worries that the uncertainty of the UK’s future relationship with the European Union would have a negative impact on the tech industry, forcing tech entrepreneurs and investors to look to other European cities.

However, many tech giants have confirmed their commitment to the UK since the referendum last June, with Amazon’s UK manager Doug Gurr saying:

“London is a great place to innovate and is a melting pot of highly skilled talent, which is why we have a long-term commitment to the capital.

“Our new Shoreditch head office will allow us to continually innovate on behalf of our customers, enable small businesses to export around the world, and attract the best and brightest talent from the tech industry.”

The latest figures from Stack Overflow come in the midst of London Tech Week, a week celebrating London’s booming tech industry and offering opportunities for both investors and entrepreneurs. Tech Week kicked off in the capital on Monday, featuring everything from cryptocurrency and autonomous cars to digitalised vodka packaging.
