Budget airline Norwegian Air have launched flights to three US airports from just £69, thanks to the new, cheaper Boeing 737MAX plane.

Whilst there are not yet any routes from London, from mid-June passengers will be able to fly direct from Edinburgh twice day, with flights from Dublin, Cork and Shannon in Ireland and Belfast in Northern Ireland starting at the beginning of July.

Norwegian Air have said they are able to offer the cheaper tickets thanks to the Boeing 737MAX plane, which uses less fuel, and the smaller airports which they are flying into. These include Stewart International Airport, around 70 miles from New York, Providence Airport in Rhode Island, and Bradley International Airport in Connecticut.

Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos said: “Our new, non-stop service will enable tens of thousands of new travellers to fly between the continents much more affordably.

“Norwegian’s latest transatlantic offering is not only great news for the traveling public, but also for the local U.S, Irish and UK economies as we will bring more tourists that will increase spending, supporting thousands of local jobs.”

Seems too good to be true? There’s a catch – to get the fares, you need to be quick. After Norwegian Air announced the deal hundreds of hopeful flyers logged on to bag a deal only to find that the cheapest fares sold out in a flash, with only a certain number available.

Norwegian Air’s cheap flight announcement comes just one month after the Icelandic low-cost airline WOW Air launched a sale, including $70 fares from the US West Coast to Europe with a stopover in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík.
