FTSE hits one-month high

The UK stock market opened 40 points to 6796 points – this is the highest it has been since 15 January.

Oil and mining companies surged on Tuesday morning but the top riser was HSBC. Shares in BP, Glencore and Shell rose by 4.53%, 4.21% and 4.43% respectively.

Glencore said this morning that it will reinstate its full-year dividend after strong results.

The Europe-wide Stoxx 600 rose just 0.1%.

Whitbread’s share price rallied this morning and was up 6.14%.
