Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) has announced plans to expand its UK workforce by over 50 percent, with the opening of the new London office.

The tech giant has given the UK a vote of confidence amid Brexit and plans to create 800 new jobs in London over the next year.

“Today’s announcements show that Facebook is more committed than ever to the UK and in supporting the growth of the country’s innovative startups,” said Nicola Mendelsohn, vice-president of Facebook’s European operations.

“The UK’s flourishing entrepreneurial ecosystem and international reputation for engineering excellence makes it one of the best places in the world to build a tech company. And we’ve built our company here – this country has been a huge part of Facebook’s story over the past decade, and I look forward to continuing our work.”

The new office is located in Rathbone Place, off of London’s Oxford Street and will be the firm’s largest engineering hub outside the US.

“The emphasis on engineering and the 800 new jobs being created [by Facebook] shows London remains at the forefront of global innovation. What’s more, the launch of the company’s incubator is set to play a crucial role in attracting vital talent to London and will help to pave the way for the next generation of successful startups,” said London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Facebook is not the only tech firm to show confidence in the UK following the EU referendum. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is planning to build a new head office in London, which will house 7,000 employees and create 3,000 jobs.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) also opened a new head office in the UK capital earlier this year, with promises to double the number of research and development staff. The new office has taken all 15 storeys of the Principal Place building, located in Shoreditch.

The tech giant also hopes to increase UK workforce to 24,000 by the end of 2017.
