Amazon to create 1200 new jobs at new Warrington site

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has announced plans to create 1,200 new permanent jobs as it opens a new warehouse in Warrington.

A spokesman for Warrington Borough Council announced the news that Amazon had signed a 15-year lease in a £30 million deal.

The new fulfilment centre comes as part of a major expansion across the UK, where new employees will work alongside the online retail giant’s robots.

Roles will include engineers, human resources, IT specialists and operations managers.

Stefano Perego, director of UK customer fulfilment at Amazon UK said: “The Amazon teams are dedicated to innovating in our fulfilment centres to increase efficiency of delivery while enabling greater selection at lower costs for our customers,”

“The introduction of Amazon robotics in Warrington and Tilbury is the latest example of our commitment to the invention in logistics on behalf of our employees and our customers.”

“We are thrilled to begin recruitment for 1,200 new permanent roles in Warrington with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one,” he added.

The Warrington warehouse will be a fulfilment centre, where items are received, stored, packaged and prepared for shipment to customers.

Employees at these sites will receive several benefits from the new role including, life assurance, income protection, employee discount, private medical insurance, subsidised meals and a company pension plan.

Amazon has already opened a new warehouse this year at Daventry. The fulfilment centres at Doncaster, Warrington and Tilbury will begin operating later this year.

“Warrington was recently ranked as the No 2 town in the country in which to do business, so it’s no surprise that a major international organisation is keen to do business here and employ local people.” said David Mowat, Conservative MP for Warrington South.

The group is hoping to increase UK workforce to 24,000 by the end of 2017.
