Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) have launched a video calling app to rival FaceTime and Skype, designed to “take the complexity out of video calling”.

The company launched the app with a blog post on the Google blog, hailing it as fast, reliable and “simple from start to finish”.

Its ‘knock knock’ feature makes video calling “spontaneous and welcoming”, and allows the user to send a live video of themselves before you answer, letting you know what they’re up to and why they want to chat.

Duo is released today and no account is required, just a phone number, and works for both Android and iOS.
